MCPL’s Square One Small Business Services Offers Programs for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
Independence, MO – Mid-Continent Public Library is quenching the thirst of aspiring entrepreneurs for industry insight and guidance through two free programs hosted by Square One Small Business Services, a division of the Library that is funded in part by a grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
On Friday, October 21, at 7 p.m. in the Woodneath Library Center, Square One will host Matt Shatto as part of its on going Entrepreneur Storytime series, which invites Kansas City’s best-known entrepreneurs to come share their success stories.
During the Storytime, Shatto will share the rich history of the family-owned Shatto Milk Company, a local staple for more than 60 years – from the dairy’s beginnings to the recent rebirth of the milkman in Kansas City. The presentation will be followed by a tasting of Shatto’s seasonal eggnog.
The following month, Square One will offer local entrepreneurs the chance to learn more about an increasingly popular industry during The Business of Micro-Distilleries program. Also held at the Woodneath Library Center, the program is scheduled for Friday, November 18 at 7 p.m.
KC Ale Trail author Pete Dulin will emcee the event, which will feature a panel of representatives from various local distilleries including Andy Rieger and Ryan Maybee from J. Rieger & Company, S.D. Strong Distilling, Damian Garcia from Union Horse Distilling Co., Tom’s Town Distilling, Lifted Spirits Distillery, and Mike Shannon from Restless Spirits Distilling Co.
“At Square One our top priority is to connect aspiring entrepreneurs to the resources and knowledge they need to be successful,” said Devon Costantine, Square One Business Specialist. “We’re here to ensure that the local small business community grows by providing programs like this, which showcase successful Kansas City entrepreneurs and give small business owners inspiration and ideas to use in their own businesses.”
