(JEFFERSON CITY) – Lieutenant Governor Mike Parson has commended President Donald Trump on his executive order rolling back Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule. This rule allows the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers jurisdiction to classify which bodies of water the federal Clean Water Act covers. President Trump’s executive order directs the Justice Department to ask a federal court to put legal challenges to the rule on hold as the administration conducts its own review.
“I applaud President Trump for this executive order against Waters of the United States, one of the worst examples of federal overreach in my lifetime,” said Lieutenant Governor Mike Parson. “I have been advocating against this rule for years, which allows bureaucrats to have jurisdiction over local land and waterways and put farmers and ranchers out of business,” Parson said.
Lieutenant Governor Parson also made mention of the actions Missouri lawmakers have already taken against federal overreach. “The people of Missouri spoke loud and clear on Election Day, they were tired of federal overreach and want to be left alone to earn a living,” said Lieutenant Governor Parson said. “I am proud of my colleagues such as Attorney General Josh Hawley for his lawsuit against federal overreach, and we will continue to work with President Trump’s administration and Congress to roll back harmful regulations,” Parson said.
