Motion Hearing in Smithville Lake Boat Slip Holder Lawsuit

Tomorrow at 9:00 AM, a motion hearing will be held in the lawsuit that was filed regarding the County’s actions earlier in the year when it suddenly begin evicting slip holders. The case was filed by Clay County resident Jacob Long and other slip holders. The slip holders allege that the County violated its policies when it failed to accept late payments from those who had failed to pay by the due date.

A motion hearing is a legal proceeding in which each party has an opportunity to argue its position orally. The judge can ask specific questions about the facts of the case or the law involved. The hearing will be held in Division III of the Clay County Courthouse.
