Needed Sidewalks Come to Maplewood Elementary & Maple Park Middle School

In August 2015, TheNorthlandNews.com published a story discussing the lack of sidewalks around Maplewood Elementary and Maple Park Elementary School. The North Kansas City School District had deemed the area unsafe for students to walk to school.

You can see the video we shot last year of the area around the schools below:

Northland Community activist Jason Withington had been pushing for sidewalks in the area around the schools for years. It appears that his efforts have finally paid off.

The sidewalks were completed as of this past weekend. You can see a slideshow of the completed work below.

Funding for the project was secured by Northland Kansas City Councilwoman Heather Hall and Mayor Pro Tem Scott Wagner. Hall helped by finding funds that were left over in the Searcy Creek TIF and Wagner helped with PIAC funding.

There will be a dedication ceremony Wednesday, October 5 at 10:00 AM at Maplewood Elementary School.
