Sheriff Deputies Handling of Shooting in Smithville Brings Kind Words From County Sheriff

Citizens of Smithville saw something a bit unusual early Thursday morning. Police and Clay County Sheriff deputies were involved in a four hour standoff with a suspect who shot another individual at the Smithville Housing Authority. The shooting victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Clay County Sheriff Paul Vescovo had kind words to say for those deputies who were involved in the incident. This posted on the sheriff’s blog today:

I watched you all last night in Smithville, and could not be more proud, and honored. You operated with restraint but also purpose, never hesitating and committed to protecting those who rely on us to keep them safe. You accomplished that with calm and resolve, and I as your sheriff commend you for it. I sometimes wonder if the world will never see your like again. I pray they will because we need you. Thank you the men and women of the Clay County Missouri Sheriff’s Office.
