Staley High School’s Jake Harris and Mohammad Shah have qualified for the National Speech and Debate Tournament to be held this June in Salt Lake City, Utah. Jake (senior) is a two-time national qualifier, while Mohammad (junior) will be making his first appearance.
The National Debate & Speech Tournament has been held across the country since 1931. Today, more than 3,300 high school students compete in a week-long competition to determine the most prestigious title in high school academics: National Champion.
Both will compete in Lincoln-Douglas debate. This year’s national tournament resolution is Resolved: Immigration ought to be recognized as a human right.
